Annual Events 2024

The Snowdrops are in full bloom and that of course means that it’s that time of the year when I begin the task of updating the list of annual events that feature The Traditional Jack-in-the-Green and The Green Man throughout the UK.

The full list is HERE and I will be updating it regularly. Confirmations of events are beginning to come in thick and fast. You will find links to each events own website or Facebook page on our annual events page so that you can check details on times and locations.

Please do get in touch if you are an organiser or follower of a particular event and can confirm that it is going ahead and I will ensure that I promote your event within these pages.

If you are new to these pages and are wondering just what on earth a Jack in the Green is then your whistle stop tour of the history of the Traditional Jack in the Green can be found right HERE.

And everything that you need to know about the modern revived Jacks can be found HERE

My thanks to Hugh Lawrence for permission to use his wonderful picture of last years Bristol Jack in the Green above.

Yaxley Jack-in-the-Green 2013

I’m delighted to confirm that the Yaxley Jack-in-the-Green was spotted at 11am today (Saturday 18th May) parading through the village of Yaxley from Great Drove, along Main Street and up Middletons Road to the recreation ground. Jack was accompanied by Sap-Engro and Copperface as well as an attendant wearing the original Ancient Order of the Foresters sash, worn in the village’s parades in the nineteenth and early twentieth century and a host of boggarts – the mischievous imps of Fenland lore. Photographs should follow soon.

The Yaxley Jack-in-the-Green is the 14th confirmed Jack-in-the-Green to go out this year. The others are: Winchcombe, Deptford/Greenwich,  Bluebell Hill/Rochester, Lands End, Oxford, Guildford, Bristol, Knutsford, Highworth, Hastings, Whitstable, Ilfracombe and Brentham.

I’m still waiting for confirmation that the Tunbridge Wells, High Wycombe and the City of London Jacks went out this year. I would love to hear from anyone who sighted these Jacks and would be very grateful for any pictures for our archives, please contact me at greenman@virgin.net

I’m also still trying to get hold of photos of the following Jacks: Bluebell Hill/Rochester, Highworth, Ilfracombe and Oxford. If anybody has pictures they could kindly send me or could put me in touch with someone who can I would be very grateful, it would be great to be able to publish pictures of every Jack of 2013.

If anyone knows of any other Jacks I may have missed I would love to hear about them. The Beltane Bash Bash event didn’t take place again this year but the Pagan Pride Parade looks like it will take place in August. I would be grateful if anyone taking part in the parade who is aware of a Jack-in-the-Green participating would get in touch.

Jack-in-the-Green Awakens!

The Bristol Jack in the Green

Less than  a week to go before Jack-in-the-Green awakens across Britain. Don’t miss out on this wonderful and magical annual tradition, go out and support your nearest Jack and  then send us in your pictures and experiences of the event to share with others. I’m going to see the Hastings Jack on Monday this year, so if you spot a tall bloke with a green man T-shirt and a camera ask him if he’s me. If he is he might just buy you a drink! Details and links to the websites of each Jack (if available) are detailed below:

Bristol Jack in the Green Saturday 1st May 2010
The Bristol Jack in the Green appears on the first Saturday in May starting from the historic Harbourside (outside the Arnolfini) and leads a magical procession through the streets of Bristol eventually ending the day on Horfield Common where he dies to release the spirit of summer.
